Birthday Cards and Aging

The content of the cards vary in each age group. The cards in the 20 year old group mostly tell about partying and living your life while having fun. The 30s make us realize what we have in our life. The 40s also make us realize what we have but also who we have become. The 50s use humor to say how they are getting older such as "over the hill," but still young enough to do plenty of things. The 60s-80s are basically the same where we look back on the good times of our life and the challenges we have endured, while appreciating all we have. Cards usually have a positive connotation about aging since every year as we grow older the cards tend to have a deeper meaning about our life. But, there are plenty of cards that use humor for aging. Humor helps us have a better perspective on life.
Overall, the society respects the elderly. Most of the cards are genuinely respectful. The cards for the older ages are sincere and have very meaningful sayings in them. What the society thinks and what the cards say are quite similar.
Young adults usually go through stages of love and close relationships, middle-aged adults most of the time go through a time where they are deeply involved with their family/career, and people in their late adulthood have a stage where they take the time to reflect back on their life. These developmental theories about aging are very similar to what card companies make each age group about.

Blog assignment #2

I have learned many different concepts throughout these chapters. In the prologue, it made me aware of how many different people it takes to have psychology continually develop from the 1920s through today. Since then, many philosophers and physiologists were involved in making psychology what it is today by putting together all their individual theories. We learned about the various types of experiments and observations that took place. Some of those same studies that were used in the past are also based on how psychologists work today. If all those people didn't help contribute to the studies of psychology, then we might not be as advanced with our knowledge.
I also learned about the different ways in which psychologists observe and describe behavior. Some of the ways include case studies, surveys, and naturalistic observation. Cases studies examine one person in depth hoping to discover world-wide principals. Surveys look at the self-reported attitudes and behaviors less in depth than case studies. Naturalistic observation is simply where people or animals are being observed and their behaviors are recorded without any interruption or control by the observer. Professional psychologists use these techniques to draw conclusions about why people or animals behave the way they do. In everyday life, us non-psychologists also observe and come to conclusions, but we aren't as analytical.
More information I learned about was how behavior in cultures affects our behavior when we are involved with a different culture. When we are involved with a different culture, we become more aware of the way they do things. A lot of the time we may feel uncomfortable and may struggle understanding why different cultures than our own behave or think they way they do. For example, when we go out to eat at a Chinese restaurant, we should know a little background of their culture so we don't feel so out of place. They use chopsticks, have a different language, and might have certain traditions they use while eating that we aren't familiar with. Becoming more open to cultures and accepting our differences enables us to have a stronger respect for each other around the world.
I found the study of how males and females tend to be alike and different quite surprising. One example was how men are more likely to be aggressive in situations, but when it comes to dating relationships, violent acts tend to be mutual between both the male and female. I found this interesting because when we think of arrests we typically think of men having the higher crime rate, which is true. Therefore, we don't realize women can also have a reputation to become aggressive. Males and females are different in many subjects/situations but can also have some similarities within that situation such as this example.
3 Questions:
1) Why are identical twins often said to be able to read each others minds?
2) Why are western cultures and eastern cultures so opposite from each other?
3) If we are shaped from birth by our parents' traits, why can siblings be complete opposites sometimes?

                                                            Its All about Psychology

Science, science, psychological science
using tendencies such as hindsight bias
we think we know, we think we might
dig so deep, we find insight
on our thoughts and our actions
when we discover, we just ask more questions
hypotheses and theories are not the same
instead they lead us back to more mind games

My psychology Intro

My name is Amber Prokopiak. I am a 17 year old senior from Thorp High School. This is pretty much the basic information about me. Now I will try to discover the deeper meaning of why I am the person I am today.

I think about things very deeply. Most of the time before I speak, I end up thinking about how the other person might interpret it. I like to see things from other people's point of view. That is why I like to hear what people are thinking most of the time. Alot of the time, I feel that I am outside of my actual surrounding, and I am just looking in from somewhere else. It's as if I really know what people are thinking without them saying anything because I'm pretty good at reading body language.

I process information my slowly letting it absorb in. A lot of times, I think I can handle alot of information at once, but usually that just makes things worse. I'm a good multi-tasker but learning multiple things at once of the same thing is a different story. For example, I would never be able to read to different books at once. I like to concentrate on one thing only before I jump to something else.

I tend to learn best if I read it to myself or try to attempt the work in a quiet place. I become easily distracted and have to do my work alone. If people try reading me something or explaining it without any diagrams or text, most likely I won't remember it. If i am working alone and I cant understand something, I become frustrated because I know if I cant get it done then, it's going to be even harder to get it done later.

I am a pretty easy going and mellow person.  I like to have fun and laugh alot.I like to put things in other peoples perspective before I become angry or upset with them. Not everybody thinks like me, so I try to think like others do. My "bad" side does come out though if I hear people gossiping about my friends or family. I'll always stand up for them and I don't let people walk over me. I've never really been a pushover, though my co-workers say I somewhat am since I don't complain when I help them with their work or even volunteer to do it.

The loss of all my grandparents probably is the biggest thing that has impacted me in my life. By the time i was in 7th grade, I was no longer fortunate to have them. It really made me realize how important family and friends are, and that we should never take them for granted. I hate being mad at people, which is why I like to solve things right away. Some people say they need to "cool down" first but I'd rather just figure it out and make things better as soon as possible.  We'll never know how long we have left in this world which is why we should make the best out of everyday. My favorite saying is "just look on the bright side." I hate putting people down, or judging them before I know them. Alot of the time, people do it just as a joke, but there is a very thin line no one should cross

I take after alot of people I think. I have my Dad's calm attitude, which is a good thing most of the time. I have my Mom's work ethic. I like to push myself and get alot of stuff done in short amount of time. My oldest sister and I share alot of the same interests. My other older sister and I have a very similar personality. It's amazing how each of my family members definitely has played a major role in my life some way or another.
